This combination of chip and battery store the information pertaining to the date of the system. This component is always active even when the laptop is turned off. At times, you may need to reset the memory of this particular chip. Now, seeing how non-volatile the device’s memory is, you won’t be able to reset this using conventional means. There might be several reasons that you want reset the CMOS memory to its normal settings. Un-ironically, the default mode of this component is the correct one. If the dates on your device are somehow altered, then our experts advise that you must first exhaust all the known software solutions before you move on to this hands-on approach:

  1. Turn your computer off by shutting down the operating system and turning the power off and unplugging the device. Once you have done that, turn the laptop around, and slide out the battery lock and remove the battery.

  2. Remove the hard drive: Use a flathead screw to unscrew the cover of the memory component. Once you have done that, remove the retaining screws of the hard drive for a complete removal.

  3. Remove the RAM, the wireless chip to reach CMOS: using the flathead screwdriver, get rid of the remaining chips of the RAM and remove it. Then disconnect the wireless card from the motherboard, you will now see a coin-shaped CMOS battery.

  4. Remove the coin-shaped battery: Now, you need to remove the coin-shaped battery by removing its locks and prying it out with your hands. Once removes, leave it out for 30 minutes before putting it back in.
